I have recently been negligent about keeping up this blog. I have to admit, it isn’t easy to remember to assign someone. But let me tell you what we have been doing. Today and yesterday, we were divided into groups. Each group must read and annotate chapters 5-6 of The Pearl. We are going to have a test and challenge next week. So be sure to cover what you can on every page of each chapter! I have to admit, I am very concerned about the progress of each group. Tonight the homework was to read chapter 3 of TKAM. Period 6 was given worksheets, period 5 was not, but I will use the worksheet as an open book quiz tomorrow.

Chapters 5-6 vocabulary Yesterday, November 5, I was absent and we watched more from that great movie “Helen of Troy.” We also took one page of notes. Today, we went over the new and final list of vocabulary for The Pearl. Then we worked on  a couple of worksheets on TKAM. One was vocabulary, the other was questions on the content of chapter 1.

Today Friday November 2nd we checked for the book To Kill a Mockingbird. After that we finished chapter four of The Pearl. This was filled with everything from Andrew’s daily commentary on everything to Danielle, Juan, and the left side of the room trying to hit me with highlighter caps. During this reading Mrs. Willoughby-Jones told us that she was tired, because her husband’s family had come in from
England last night. She told us to be quiet several times, but we did not listen, this resulted in us having three minutes of lunch taken away.  Then she showed us how the last page of chapter four related to the chain of being and the hierarchy of it. Then as I was writing this it was brought down from three to two minutes.

Today in Mrs. Willoughby’s class we read our usual 15 minutes. Today we started to read CH.4 of the
Pearl, but eventually developed into a game, in which we got into groups of 3-4 and we will continue this game tomorrow. The game is getting to be really competitive. Tonght’s homework is to bring To Kill A Mockingbird to class and also to do a creative story for chapter 4 vocabulary.

John’s Notes

Due to the short schedule from the assembly for homecoming, today’s class was cut short.  The only plans for today were to take the vocabulary quiz, in which many students did not do well.

Today we read for 15 minutes and then we watched a video on John Steinbeck. We didn’t take any notes. Then we were given the choice of working on our sense poems or the vocabulary story, both of which are due tomorrow.

Today we opened our book and labeled everything having to do with the theme, figurative language, or foreshadowing in chapter three. The people who didn’t take the vocabulary quiz last week had to make it up after class.
